Why I didn’t reach for food this time

Hello Reader,

Sometimes life hits all at once: messy, overwhelming, unavoidable

Last week, i snapped at my mom.

She hanged up on me.

And I was left sitting there, heart pounding and eyes burning, feeling everything at once.

Moments like these used to send me straight to food, to quiet the pain inside.

But that quick relief comes at a cost:

guilt, shame, indigestion, heaviness…

And that voice whispering: “I did it again.”

The shift that changed everything

The next day, while commuting from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, I noticed something I’d never seen so clearly:

I wasn’t just stressed, I was fighting

  • Fighting my back pain
  • Fighting with life
  • Fighting the people I love

And honestly… it was too much!

That awareness changed everything.

The old Rouba would have gotten lost in the “why” this was happening.

Not anymore. What mattered was this:

How can I care for myself enough to calm my nervous system and soften the edges of my back pain?

Loving kindness in action

Here’s what helped me shift from “I must fix myself” to “I can care for myself”:

🫁 Breathe and meditate: not to escape, but feel the air move through me, a reminder that my body is my center.

ith every inhale and exhale, my thoughts soften, the noise in my head quiets, and I rest in the subtle awareness of my body, just being here.

👣 Feel instead of think: the floor under my feet, the seat behind my back, small anchors pulling me out of my pain and my head.

Attention moves from doing to simply being. I’m not trying to solve anything; I’m just noticing sensations, letting them anchor me in this moment.

💧Surrender, not resist: pausing every time I find myself fighting, and letting go of my control.

Because real healing happens when I stop pushing against life and let the wind guide me instead.

Each small act is helping me soften and reconnect

Fixing my back is not 100% within my control

But let me tell you what is within my control: feeling here.

Present. Held by my body instead of swept away by fighting and frustration. I can sit with the discomfort of my back and still feel anchored.

And in this moment, I don’t need food to anchor me, my body is already doing that for me.

Surrender isn’t giving up.

It’s leaning into the support that’s already available inside of me, trusting that the storm will pass, and letting my body guide me through it.

Hello hello, It’s been a while since you last heard from me. As January quietly comes to an end, I wanted to check back in. A new year often brings fresh intentions. But sometimes, the body has its own plans. When the body speaks loud My return to you comes after a rough patch, one where my relationship with food was tested in ways I hadn’t experienced in a long time. It began with shoulder and back pain that kept getting louder. At first, there was denial. This is nothing. It will pass. But...

Dear friends, You may have noticed I’ve been quiet lately. The past few months were intense: a two-month consulting project, 12 two-day workshops, 250 people, and a return to the corporate world after seven years as a solo entrepreneur. It was everything I was craving: connection, challenge, immersion, and the energy of a team. But my body… my body felt like it was screaming. Sleepless nights, racing thoughts, back and shoulder pain, constipation. My nervous system was running overtime. I...
